Survey the current condition for repair - Ship collision incident at SP-SSA International Terminal (SSIT)

  • Location: Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, Vietnam
  • Client/Owner: JV of SSA Marine (USA), Vinalines and Saigon Port
  • Total area: 60.55ha, Container berths: 2, Quay length: 600m, Container ships with load up to 160,000DWT
  • Products provide: 3D Point cloud model - 3D Photogrammetry model - 3D Simulation - Model BIM

The incident occurred when a 57,000 DWT cargo ship was moving on the Vung Tau - Thi Vai stream (in the Cai Mep area) and collided with the SSIT wharf. Firstly, the ship collided with a moored barge at the wharf and then collided with the wharf.

We quickly approached the area of the affected wharf and collected the current status using 3D laser scanning technology and Photogrammetry technique to reconstruct a 3D model of the ship. Based on the pre-collision data (speed, direction of movement) combined with the scanned data, we simulated the collision process to provide scenarios for structural analysis (the displacement of the rail, the damaged components of the wharf). The information obtained from the analysis will serve the repair design process.
